7 Day Challenge 2015: DAY 6 (MONDAY)

Welcome to the 7 Day Challenge. For 7 days, we are testing our Emergency Preparedness and Food Storage Plans. Each day will bring a NEW mock emergency or situation that will test at least one of the reasons “WHY” we strive to be prepared! REMEMBER: No going to a store, gas station, or spending any money for the entire 7 days (unless we say otherwise)! And please feel free to adapt the scenarios to fit your own family and situation.

Your older children are learning are at the age where they are able to babysit younger siblings or other people. While they are home alone an emergency situation arises. Have your kids go through several scenarios and practice first aid and safety skills. If you have only younger kids or no children at home you can practice this with grandkids, neighbors, etc.

Goal: Help your children understand potential emergencies and be ready for them

Today’s Tasks:

  • Brainstorm medical emergencies that are likely to happen
  • Make a “cheat sheet” for what to do for each medical emergency scenario
  • Practice the first aid skills required for each scenario
  • Make a list of first aid supplies you may need to get
  • Brainstorm other emergencies that may occur (fire, flood, earthquake, burglar)
  • Make a cheat sheet and practice what to do for each of the non-medical emergencies that may occur
  • FILL OUT YOUR MASTER WORKSHEET TODAY – Doing it as you practice each day will help you remember what you want to include.

Today’s Limitations:

  • For this day, and ALL days of the challenge: no spending money, no going to stores, and no restaurants.
  • No other limitations today

Advanced Tasks:

  • Don’t tell your kids and do a trial run with some kind of emergency (maybe set off a fire alarm) and see how well they do under pressure
  • Discuss the test with them afterwards and go over what they did well and what they could do better next time

We put together a master worksheet for you to fill out each day of the challenge. There is a separate page to list the things you need to buy, do, and learn after each day of the challenge. Include a due date of when you’d like to accomplish the task and check it off when you do it! Fill it out at the end of each day while your memory is fresh.
