Are you trying to set yourself up on a budget so that you can save money, get out of debt, or just live within your means? Do you understand how important having a budget can be and what do you need to do in order to maintain your budget? There are many theories on how to prepare a budget, but there is only one right way to do it. Here is what you need to know to prepare your budget properly.

First, to do this correctly and accurately you need to know exactly where each and every penny you spend is going. You also need to know how much income you can count on each month. This can be done by keeping track of your monthly expenses and receipts for every penny you spend. You can also just sit down and really brainstorm about what you spend money on each month.

Second, do not forget to include expenses that you do not have to pay each month. This includes oil changes, car registration, license renewal, birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, holiday spending, hair cuts, vet bills, doctor visits, dentist visits, and anything else that is not a monthly expense, but still has to be paid at some point. You can budget for these monthly and just keep the money in your savings account until you need it.

Last, you have to be realistic when you prepare your budget. This is where knowing yourself, your discipline level, and how you spend money comes into play. If you know you are going to want to go out for dinner once a week, then plan your budget so that you can include that. If you want to save for something special, then plan your budget to include that. Then, you just have to stick to your plan and you will get to where you need to go.
